By now most of us know that the just completed National Convention raised the per capita rate to National by $5.00! What does this mean to your Post and our Department?
At the moment it will not affect your Post or the Department until January 16, 2016! After that Department will be sending $5 more of your current per capita to National. If you are receiving monies from an online renewal your Post will be receiving $5 less!
How does this all work? Let us say your current Post dues are $40. Post sends $28.50 to Department and keep the $11.50. It breaks down this way:
Post Collects Dues $40.00
Dep’t/National per capita $28.50 Post keeps the $11.50
Dep’t per capita $15.00 Dep’t sends the $13.50 to
National
After January 16, 2016
Post Collects Dues $40.00
Dep’t/National per capita $28.50 Post keeps the $11.50
Dep’t sends $18.50 to Nat’l Dep’t keeps $10.00 ($5.00 less than before 16
Jan.)
After new Nat’l dues date Dep’t will be keeping $5.00 less!! The obvious is that we will have to raise our Department per capita by a minimum of $5.00 just to keep up!! But what if there are additional costs involved with the $anger move and purchase? Well, it would seem we will be asked to add to our per capita by even MORE! Remember, we were promised by Cdr. Crooks there would be no more Dep’t increases for 5 years!
Now let us say one of your members pays online for their membership direct to National after 16 January. National will take out their $18.50 and send the remaining $21.50 to Dep’t. After Dep’t takes out their $15.00 ONLY $6.50 will be sent to your Post! Now your Post is paying for the increase!
All in all after 16 January next year either you or Dep’t will be losing out in the increase! So best way to avoid anyone losing out is to get in as many of your dues to Department before the end of this year otherwise we will be coming up short!
